SOLOK - The Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of West Sumatra Province (West Sumatra) evacuated a Sumatran tiger with female gender that was caught in a trap in Nagari (village) Batang Barus, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency.

"This attitude was installed about two weeks ago because there was a request from residents," said Head of the Conservation Section of Region III Sijunjung, West Sumatra BKSDA, Mecky Aditya Eka Putra, as reported by ANTARA, Thursday, November 14.

He said the Sumatran tiger was discovered by residents to have entered the trap or box strap on Thursday morning. After being disturbed, officers immediately moved the protected animal to the Kinantan Cultural Wildlife Park (TMSBK), or the Zoo in Bukittinggi City.

Evacuation of animals protected by Law Number 5 of 1990 concerning Conservation of Natural Resources and their Ecosystems after installing box strap traps at the end of October 2024.

The installation of this trap was motivated by several conflicts between the Sumatran tiger and the local environment which pounced on two to three dogs belonging to residents in Nagari Batang Barus.

"So there have been many incidents of residents meeting the Sumatran tigers, so we set traps to prevent unwanted things," he said.

The location where the Sumatran tiger was found was between two wildlife asylums, namely the Barisan Wildlife Sanctuary and the Tarusan Wildlife Sanctuary, so that it is the habitat of the protected animal.

Meanwhile, Wali Nagari (village head) Batang Barus, Gunung Talang District, Solok Regency, Banta Bransyah said local residents had seen the wildlife firsthand enter residential areas and pounced on dogs.

"To prevent the conflict between tigers and humans, we ask BKSDA and the Nagari Children's Patrol Team to set traps," he said.
