JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Gibran Rakabuming Raka wants coding lessons to be applied at the Elementary School (SD) or Junior High School (SMP) level.

"Yesterday I entrusted it to the Minister in our last meeting, if possible at the elementary or junior high school level, coding lessons might also be applied," said the Vice President when giving directions at the Basic and Secondary Education Evaluation Coordination Meeting, quoted by ANTARA, Monday, November 11.

The Vice President assessed that this step is important to implement so that Indonesia can compete with other countries, such as India, which is known to have produced many experts in the field of technology.

The vice president said this idea was also part of realizing the 2045 Golden Indonesia Vision. The vice president wants the younger generation to master expertise in the field of artificial intelligence (AI), coding, machine learning, and other fields of technology.

"To go to Indonesia Gold, we need a golden generation. We want more coding experts, AI experts, machine learning experts, and so on," said the Vice President.

The vice president also supported the discourse to introduce mathematical lessons at the Kindergarten (TK) level.

"Maybe this media friend has heard a lot, how will mathematical lessons be applied at the kindergarten level. I think this is very good," said the Vice President.

Meanwhile, on the same occasion, Minister of Basic and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti said that his party would prepare Artificial Intelligence (AI) and coding subjects to implement the Red and White Cabinet program related to digitalization.

"I hereby convey an official leak. So we convey in our plan that the update of the upcoming curriculum will add AI subjects and coding as selected subjects in schools that are already able to implement it," said the Minister of Education and Culture.

He explained that the two subjects would be an option in several schools taking into account the readiness of information and communication technology (ICT) facilities and infrastructure owned by each school.
