JAKARTA - Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha said on Thursday Ukraine believed US support would continue despite whoever won next week's presidential election, citing what she called strong bipartisan support.
The incumbent US Vice President Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party will compete with Republican candidates in the election which will be held on November 5.
"We have strong bipartisan support, both from the Republican and Democratic parties. And of course, we have strong support from the American people," Foreign Minister Sybiha told reporters in Montreal, Canada when asked about the election results.
"I want to emphasize support for Ukraine, it's not charity, (it's) a contribution to trans-Atlantic security, and we believe that this support will continue," he said at the end of the conference discussing the return of Ukrainians detained by Russia.
Earlier this month, Donald Trump blamed President Volodymyr Zelensky for helping ignite the war with Russia, a comment that further suggests the Republicans will likely reduce Washington's support for Ukraine if they win the presidential election.
Unlike Trump, who has frequently criticized President Zelensky during the campaign, Democrat candidate Kamala Harris has promised to continue to support Ukraine.
