Russia Calls Britain Supplying Weapons To Ukraine Via Black Sea Route

JAKARTA - Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Maria Zakhariba dismissed British claims that Russia attacked Ukraine's port infrastructure indefinitely in the Black Sea, threatening global food security, instead saying Britain used the waters to send weapons to Ukraine.

"This baseless but harsh anger from London only highlights Britain's active role in supplying weapons to Kyiv through the Black Sea wheat corridor," Zakharova said at a briefing.

Last week, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the increase in Russia's attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port had delayed sending important aid to Palestine, halting supplies of essential wheat to the southern hemisphere.

Meanwhile, the United Nations said last week that Russia's attack on Ukraine's Black Sea port had damaged six civilian ships and grain infrastructure since September 1, calling the increase in attacks "sad".

Zakharova then referred to a military cargo video at the Port of Yuzhny, balik, which is suspected of being a weapons supply, released by the Russian Ministry of Defense.

"The London's denial of this fact is completely futile. We interpret the UK's painful reaction as an indication of their true motive for Ukraine: ensuring the safety of the deadly supply of aid to Kyiv rather than protecting the delivery of wheat," he explained.

Zakharova stressed that Britain "is clearly not seeking conflict resolution and is making every effort to prolong it, thereby prolonging the suffering of the Ukrainian people."

Ukraine is the world's main grain and corn producer and exports about six million tonnes of grain per month through the Black Sea, before Russia sends its troops to Ukraine by 2022.

Ukraine created a shipping corridor in the Black Sea, following the failure of the UN-backed Black Sea seed export initiative last year that involved Russia and has ensured the safety of the path of the seed ship.
