Israel Sieges Indonesian Hospital In Northern Gaza, Refugee Camp School Burned

JAKARTA - Israeli troops surrounded hospitals and shelters for refugees in northern Gaza.

Soldiers arrested men and ordered women to leave the Jabalia historic refugee camp. Israeli airstrikes against homes in Jabalia killed five people and injured several others, medics said.

The United Nations Palestinian refugee agency, UNRWA, said Israeli authorities prevented humanitarian missions from reaching territory north of the essential supplies of Palestinian territory, including medicines and food.

People who tried to escape were killed, their bodies were left on the street, said UNRWA chairman Philippe Lazzarini on X.

A medical officer at the Indonesian Hospital told Reuters Israeli forces stormed the school and detained the men before setting them on fire.

The fire reached the hospital generator and caused a power outage.

Local health officials said they rejected orders from Israeli soldiers, who started a new attack on the northern region more than two weeks ago, to evacuate three hospitals in the region or leave patients unsupervised.

Troops remained outside the hospital but were not admitted, they said. A medical officer at the second hospital, Kamal Adwan, reported gunfire from Israel near the hospital at night.

"The army burned down schools next to the hospital, and no one was allowed to enter or leave the hospital," said a nurse at the Indonesian hospital, who asked not to be named.

Palestinian health officials say 18 people have died in Jabalia and eight others in Gaza as a result of Israeli attacks.

The Israeli military said they were operating against terrorists and terrorist infrastructure in the Greater Java region.

Troops called Isreal helped thousands of civilians to evacuate safely via organized routes. Israel is in contact with the international community and Gaza's health care system to ensure hospital emergency services operate.

In recent days, troops have dismantled militant infrastructure and tunnels and killed fighters in the Greater Java region.
