Congratulations To President Prabowo, Joe Biden Expects Improvement Of Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

JAKARTA - President Joe Biden hopes that the comprehensive strategic partnership between Indonesia and the United States will continue to increase, while congratulating Prabowo Subianto's inauguration as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia on Sunday.

Prabowo Subianto was inaugurated as the 8th President in the Plenary Session Room, Nusantara MPR/DPR/DPD RI Building, Jakarta, replacing his predecessor Joko Widodo.

"I congratulate President Prabowo Subianto for his inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia, and to all Indonesian people who have exercised their voting rights and voiced their opinions," President Biden said in a statement on the White House website, as quoted Monday, October 21.

President Biden said Indonesia and the United States celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations.

"Vice President Harris and I look forward to working with President Prabowo to celebrate this milestone by continuing to strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and showing that a democratic country can overcome the most important challenges for the lives of our society," said President Biden.

In line with the leadership of the White House, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken also hopes that Prabowo's inauguration will improve Jakarta's relations with Washington.

"We congratulate the elected Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto for his victory and once again praise the Indonesian people for their high participation and commitment to democracy and the rule of law," Foreign Minister Blinken said in a US State Department website upload.

"The United States and Indonesia celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations based on democracy and pluralism. As close partners and friends under the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, we work together to realize a better future for our citizens," he continued.

"We look forward to a close partnership with President-elect Prabowo Subianto and his administration when they start taking office in October," Foreign Minister Blinken added.

The United States sent its delegation to attend the inauguration of President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka, with President Biden last week making a visit to Berlin, Germany to attend a meeting with German, French and British leaders to discuss the situation.
