Absent From Prabowo Gibran's Inauguration, PDIP Says Megawati Has Scheduled A Meeting With The New President Of The Republic Of Indonesia

JAKARTA - The 5th President of the Republic of Indonesia and PDIP General Chair Megawati Soekarnoputri have scheduled a meeting with President Prabowo Subianto who has just been inaugurated.

This was said by the Chairman of the PDI-P DPP (PDIP) Ahmad Basarah because Megawati did not attend the inauguration agenda of Prabowo Gibran on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at the Nusantara Building, Jakarta.

"God willing, after the inauguration of the president today, Mrs. Mega has scheduled a friendship and a meeting between her and President Prabowo Subianto," Basarah said when met at the Parliament Complex, Jakarta, as quoted by Antara.

He said that later in the meeting, pragmatic matters such as positions or ministerial seats would no longer be discussed, but would be a meeting between two friendly national figures.

"The meeting is believed to be a friendly meeting, two national figures who will think about the fate and future of the Indonesian nation when Pak Prabowo leads this nation," he said.

Regarding when the meeting will be held, he still cannot confirm the exact time.

"It could be that a meeting with Mrs. Mega with Pak Prabowo was held after the inauguration of her cabinet minister," he said.

Megawati Soekarnoputri was unable to attend the inauguration of the president and vice president today for health reasons.

"Mrs. Mega asked me to apologize to Prabowo because today Mrs. Mega was very forced not to attend her inauguration as President of the Republic of Indonesia because it was indeed a health condition," said Basarah.

He also emphasized that Megawati's absence from today's inauguration ceremony did not mean that Prabowo was appointed as the 8th President of the Republic of Indonesia.

He explained that Megawati's condition declined after her visit from Russia and Uzbekistan in the context of exploring the journey of the First President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno or Bung Karno in September.

It is known that Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka took the oath of office as President and Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia for the 2024-2029 term at the MPR RI Plenary Session at the Nusantara Building, Parliament Complex, Jakarta, Sunday.

A total of 732 members of the MPR RI witnessed the procession of taking the oath of office. The MPR RI Plenary Session was also attended by national figures, leaders of political parties, and representatives of friendly countries.
