Hundreds Of Workers Will Hold Action After 4 Days Prabowo Inaugurated As President

JAKARTA - Hundreds of thousands of workers will hold a demonstration four days after Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka were sworn in as president and vice president on October 20, 2024.

The plan is for the action to be held on October 24-31, 2024, followed by various unions, federations and labor confederations throughout Indonesia.

"From October 24 to 31, 2024, during the week there will be demonstrations or demonstrations of workers, hundreds of thousands of workers throughout Indonesia, 38 provinces and have expressed the willingness of more than 350 regencies/cities," said the President of the Confederation of Indonesian Trade Unions (KSPI) who is also the President of the Labor Party, Said Iqbal, in an online press conference, on Friday, October 18.

Said Iqbal explained that simultaneous demonstrations would begin on Thursday, October 24 at the Jakarta Palace and be held in waves in other areas throughout Indonesia.

"This action is that each area is simultaneously bumpy, for example, on the 24th it will start from Jakarta at the Palace, thousands of workers will come down at the Palace on October 24," he explained.

"On October 25, West Java workers and workers from the Riau Batam Islands in particular, continued on the 26th except for Saturday, except for Saturday, Sunday to 27, 28, 29, 30, October 31, the waves, some were simultaneous, some were bumpy," he continued.

The demands brought by the workers in the upcoming demonstration. First, the workers asked for an increase in wages in 2025 by 8 to 10 percent. Second, workers demanded a new government to revoke the Job Creation Omnibus Law, especially the labor cluster and the protection of farmers.

"Those are the two issues that will be voiced, during the massive action, hundreds of thousands of workers throughout Indonesia took to the streets from October 24 to 31, 2024 in 38 provinces, and more than 350 regencies/cities," said Said Iqbal.
