Police Investigate Stolen Motorcycle Shelter Network Carried Out By Recidivists From Lampung

JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Metro Police Satreskrim investigators are still investigating the network of stolen motorbikes that were sold cheaply to several parties by the suspect MW (47) from Lampung.

"We are exploring the stolen motorcycle sales network which is directly sold at varying prices," said Deputy Head of Criminal Investigation at the Central Jakarta Metro Police, Kompol Rezeki Revi Respati when confirmed, Tuesday, October 15.

From the results of the examination of the suspect MW (47) who became the captain of the theft of the Lampung group, he was recorded as having been detained in several cases of theft.

In 2016, MW was detained at the Cipinang Rutan for motorcycle theft, followed by detention in Yogyakarta in 2019. MW was again detained in Tangerang in June 2023 for a similar case.

After only being released from detention in June 2024, MW took the same action again.

"This means that this is the fourth time MW has dealt with the police," he said.

In the action, MW acts as the executor and uses a homemade alli-type revolver weapon obtained from one of the DPOs with the initials ST.

"This MW acts as the executor and at the same time fights the officers by threatening to use a revolver type firearm," he said.

Currently, the Central Jakarta Metro Police Satreskrim is still chasing three MW friends who are the theft gang from Lampung. They carried out theft with a T key and used homemade firearms to threaten the officers.

For his actions, MW was charged with multiple layers of articles, namely Article 363 paragraph 1 4 of the Criminal Code related to theft with weighting, Article 53 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code related to attempted criminal acts, and Emergency Law no. 12 of 1951 Article 1 Paragraph 1 related to possession of firearms without a valid permit.

"The threat of punishment from these articles includes a maximum prison sentence of 9 years for the theft article with weights, as well as a prison sentence of up to 20 years for violations of the Emergency Law regarding possession of firearms without a permit," he said.

Previously, it was reported that MW (47), a man from Lampung, was again arrested by the police for being caught stealing a motorbike in the Gambir area, Central Jakarta.

The suspect, who is a recidivist of the motorcycle theft case, is a Lampung group that often commits crimes in a number of areas.

But this time, it was a sad day for MW. After stealing motorbikes dozens of times in the Yogyakarta, Tangerang and Jakarta areas, MW was finally arrested again when he launched his action in Central Jakarta.

Suspect MW was arrested while trying to escape from an ambush of officers who had chased him from the Gambir area towards Senen, Central Jakarta. Right at Flyover Senen, the suspect MW who was riding with his colleague MC (DPO) was intercepted at Flyover Senen.
