European Union Condemns Israeli Attack On UN Peace Forces Headquarters In Lebanon

JAKARTA - The EU foreign policy chief, Josep Borrell, condemned the Israeli military's shooting of a position known as the headquarters of the UN peacekeeping force in Lebanon. He stressed the action was "unjustable."

Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) attacked the control tower at the UN Temporary Forces facility in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

The IDF endangered the peacekeepers by placing its troops near UN missions during Israel's ground operations against the Hezbollah movement, Lebanon.

"Another line has been maliciously violated in Lebanon: the IDF shooting of the UN peacekeeping force whose position has been known," Borrell said on platform X.

"We condemn this unacceptable act, which has no justification. The European Union reaffirms its full support for UNIFIL, a mission mandated by the UN Security Council, and its troops," Borrell said.

Since October 1, Israel has launched a ground operation against Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon while continuing to carry out airstrikes.

Despite losses, Hezbollah continued to fight Israeli forces on land and launched rockets across the border.

Israel stated that its main goal was to create conditions that would allow the return of 60,000 Israelis fleeing from shootings in the northern region.
