JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) in Central Java invites Muslims to perform tarawih at mosques in the upcoming Ramadan by still implementing health protocols (prokes) considering the COVID-19 pandemic still occurring.

"We invite Muslims in Central Java to return to the Tarawih Prayers in Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr 1442 H prayers in mosques by fully implementing health protocols," said Head of Central Java MUI Ahmad Darodji in Semarang, reported by Antara, Sunday, 4 April.

However, he hopes that the pandemic conditions will not reduce the quality of Muslim worship.

"Muslims in Central Java should make the month of Ramadan as a momentum to increase their faith, piety, sincerity, and get closer to Allah SWT, by increasing the Sunnah Prayers, reverently doing zikr, reproducing istigfar, and reciting Al Quran and praying to Allah SWT," he said.

He also asked Muslims in Central Java to increase their gratitude considering the handling of the COVID-19 pandemic by the government and community participation at the national and Central Java levels showed good results.

"I also invite Muslims in Central Java to be actively involved in overcoming the COVID-19 epidemic by contributing to the success of the COVID-19 vaccination program and still adhering to health protocols so as to break the chain of COVID-19 spread in their homes as quickly as possible," he said.

As an effort to help ease the heavy economic burden as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic in Central Java, his party hopes that BAZNAS, LAZ, UPZ, and other philanthropic institutions in the area can increase their role in collecting and targeting zakat, donations and alms.

"I invite Muslims to increase solidarity and help each other, especially between neighbors in an area, both in terms of maintaining common health to stop the spread of COVID-19, maintaining security and order, as well as helping each other's needs," he said.
