DKI Implements Household Waste Retribution Starting January 2025, Costs In Accordance With Electricity

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) has implemented household waste levies starting January 2025 to local residents as an effort to reduce and manage it.

"Later on, each household will have a retribution according to the regional regulation which has been ratified on January 1, 2024 and will start implementing January 1, 2025," said Head of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Environment Agency Asep Kuswanto as reported by ANTARA, Tuesday, October 8.

Asep said that his party had prepared this step for a year in accordance with the Regional Regulation (Perda) of DKI Jakarta Province Number 1 of 2024 concerning Regional Taxes and Regional Retribution.

The retribution rate for cleaning services is regulated in Article 66 of the Regional Tax Region and Regional Retribution that people are subject to tariffs according to the use of electricity.

For the electricity user community, 450 volt-ampere (VA) to 900 VA, leniency is exempted, while the electricity user community of 1,300 to 2,200 VA is subject to a retribution of IDR 10,000 per month.

For the medium level or electricity user 3,500 to 5,500 VA, it is IDR 30 thousand per month and the upper level or electricity user is more than 6,600 VA of IDR 77 thousand per month.

"Not only households, but also for companies because commercial areas must also carry out waste processing," he said.

In its implementation later, it will also provide relief such as reducing retribution costs for residents and selected commercial areas that have awareness in waste management.

For example, relief is given to residents who are active in waste banks.

He emphasized that the government does not want to increase the burden on Jakarta residents, but wants to increase public awareness to care about the environment.

Regarding the consequences if it violates, there is no sanction regulation yet, but all of it returns from the rules of the RW and the residents who apply it.

"Perhaps there will be social sanctions from Mr. RW to these residents. So, according to regulations, there are no certain sanctions imposed on household waste levies," he said.

Jakarta's waste stockpiling continues to increase and until now its volume has reached 8,000 tons per day.
