JAKARTA - Russia's Head of Radiation, Chemical and Biological Protection Force Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov on Monday said the Ukrainian military used Western chemical weapons under the guise of a smoke bullet in Sudzha, Kursk's August border this year.

"In August 2024, the Kyiv regime's facts were revealed secretly using chemical weapons under the guise of smoke bullets," said Lieutenant General Kirillov, launching TASS on October 7.

"In particular, Ukrainian armed gangs used 155mm DM105 cluster ammunition in Sudzha City, Kursk Region on August 11, resulting in more than 20 people suffering," the defense official continued.

This 3,800 rounds of ammunition were supplied to Ukraine in September 2023 under a military aid package, Kirillov said.

"The analysis of selected samples conducted at the 27th Scientific Center laboratory of the Russian Ministry of Defense accredited by the OPCW shows that these personnel are affected by a large number of inhaled aerosol chlorines and strangled substances. Meanwhile, the chloride metal mixture is just an incognito," he explained.

The study of the toxicity of the chloride metal mixture of ammunition of this type carried out at the US-made Fort Detrick military laboratory revealed that its combustion products have a strong irritation effect on the upper respiratory tract and can cause severe poisoning, said Lieutenant General Kirillov.
