JAKARTA - Al Azhar University Indonesia academic Ujang Komarudin assessed that the General Election Commission (KPU) recapitulation information system (Sirekap) must still be used for the 2024 Regional Head Election (Pilkada).

He explained that the system had been made using a large budget, so it had to be used as well as possible to support the process of implementing regional elections or elections in the future.

"Happy or unhappy that the (Sirekap) system that has been made with such a large budget during the last presidential election, must be continued in the regional elections," Ujang told Jakarta, Monday, October 7, which was confiscated by Antara.

The doctor (S3) of Political Science at the University of Indonesia (UI) revealed that the public or stakeholders no longer need to talk about whether or not the use of the system is necessary.

"However, what must be considered is how to maximize the use of the system to help the implementation of regional elections and elections," he said.

Even so, Ujang still reminded the KPU to continue to fix the system so as to avoid potential mistakes that could arise in the future.

"But of course it must be done with a strict and total evaluation. So when there are many problems in the last presidential and legislative elections, when used in the regional elections this time, of course we must be careful," said the Executive Director of the Indonesia Political Review (IPR).

According to him, the system will greatly assist the KPU's performance if it is maximally and valid when used.

"So it must really be tested and not trial and error anymore. So you have to really maintain your performance by presenting a good Sirekap," said Ujang.

Chairman of the Technical Division of the INDONESIAN KPU Idham Holik said that Sirekap would be reused in the 2024 Pilkada.

He also emphasized that the KPU and its developers have made very significant improvements in terms of the computing system.

"With regard to Sirekap's traffic capacity, God willing, the bandwidth will be bigger, so that the traffic will be better. We will continue to improve Sirekap's reading ability, so that the level of accuracy will be better," said Idham.

In addition, the KPU commissioner also said that simulations of using Sirekap had been carried out in two places, namely Depok City, West Java, and Maros Regency (South Sulawesi).

"The level of accuracy has reached more than 99 percent. We believe that in the future it will be better, and we will disseminate information to the public," he said.
