The West Sumatra Regional Police (Polda) held an ethics trial against 17 personnel who made efforts to prevent brawls in the Kuranji area, Padang.

Head of Public Relations of the West Sumatra Police, Kombes Dwi Sulystiawan, said the ethics trial against the personnel had started on Wednesday (3/10).

"The mechanism for the trial for one personnel is first completed until the verdict, after it is decided then it will be continued to other personnel," Dwi said as quoted by ANTARA, Thursday, October 3.

The ethics trial was held by the Propam Division of the West Sumatra Police when the personnel prevented the brawl in Kuranji on June 9.

The alleged ethical violation occurred at the Kuranji Sector Police Station when the personnel arrested dozens of brawlers at the location.

After being secured to the Kuranji Police Office, it was there that the alleged procedural error was carried out by personnel from the Sabhara Directorate of the West Sumatra Police to the perpetrators of the arrested brawl.

Dwi said that ethical processing was a form of commitment from the West Sumatra Police, his party did not justify the wrong actions of officers in the field.

According to him, the ethics trial was also carried out transparently against the personnel because the police invited external parties.

The trial was witnessed directly by representatives from Kompolnas, KPAI, LPSK, Komnas HAM and LBH, including the Daily Chair of Kompolnas who were present in person.

"The first member to be tried is the personnel in charge of being the team leader who brought a group of brawl prevention patrols," he explained.

He said related to the process against the personnel, the West Sumatra Police Propam Division asked for information from dozens of brawlers as witnesses.

Dwi stated that the West Sumatra Police would be transparent and open in every ethical process as promised by the West Sumatra Police Chief Inspector General Suharyono.
