JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of Commission VIII DPR, Ace Hasan Syadzily highlighted the case of alleged intolerance in the Plej of State Civil Apparatus (ASN) of the Bekasi City Government, West Java. Ace regretted the attitude of ASN personnel who questioned worship activities with a number of Christians in one of the residents' houses.

"Berbadah itu merupakan hak yang dilindungi konstitusi negara kita," kata Ace Hasan Syadzily, Rabu 25 September.

As is known, the case of intolerance by ASN personnel can be seen in a video that has gone viral on social media (medsos). The video shows a woman with the initials M protesting against her neighbor while holding a prayer together at her home in the South Bekasi area. According to M, joint prayer activities must obtain permission.

M's disgraceful attitude, who is an Eslon IIIB official, Head of the Bekasi City Tourism Marketing Division, received a lot of criticism from netizens. Ace said M's attitude had injured the values of diversity which became the hallmark of the Indonesian nation.

"People worship need not be questioned. Moreover, this is just praying. Praying anywhere can be done," he said.

According to Ace, M's intolerance has violated ASN rules. Because state servants must be role models for the community, not showing a negative attitude.

"As an ASN, he should prioritize the values of tolerance and prioritize the spirit of diversity," said Ace.

ASN M himself recently also apologized to all parties who were not pleased with his attitude. Ace assessed that this incident should be used as a lesson.

"Although the person concerned has apologized, I see that there is still a need for a campaign of tolerance and inter-religious harmony, including in the bureaucracy," said the member of the DPR, who grew up in the pesantren environment.

"This is important so that in the future there will be no more similar problems. Moral and ethical education for ASN must also be further strengthened, including the socialization of the threat of sanctions against the relaxation of the code of ethics," added Ace.

The leadership of the House of Representatives' Commission on Religious and Social Affairs also hopes that all people can maintain unity and integrity, in all aspects of the environment. Moreover, said Ace, for state servants who have an obligation to serve the community.

"Indonesia is beautiful because of its diversity, I really hope that people can build enthusiasm to respect and respect each other, especially in terms of inter-religious people," explained the legislator from West Java II.

"We don't want Indonesia's warm face to be tarnished because of the problem of intolerance. Let's build a harmonious life of Indonesian society and prioritize the value of tolerance between religious communities," he concluded.
