JAKARTA - Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi said the black box with the cockpit voice recorder (CVR) type of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 aircraft was found.

Budi said that the discovery of a black box containing recorded conversations between the pilot and the co-pilot was found last night.

"Last night, the CVR was found in a place not far from the discovery of the black box flight data recorder (FDR)", Budi said in a press conference at JICT 2 Pier, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta, Wednesday, March 31.

Budi said that he had reported the discovery of the black box to President Joko Widodo. Jokowi then instructed the CVR black box to be submitted to the National Transportation Safety Committee (NTSC) for analysis.

"We have reported to the President that this has been reported and we will immediately give it to the NTSC and follow up on everything", said Budi.

Initially, the joint SAR operation was stopped on January 21. Then, the NTSC conducted a further search to find CVR black boxes on January 22 around Lancang Island.

For several days, the search around the crash site was hampered by bad weather and high waves. Meanwhile, the strength in one dive is only able to search 5x5 meters in the area every 20 minutes.

The NTSC also tried to use a mud blower to facilitate the search for the black box CVR that had been detached from the signal transmitter.

The crash of the Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 plane on the Jakarta-Pontianak route began with a loss of contact in Kepulauan Seribu shortly after taking off from Soekarno-Hatta Airport on Saturday, January 9, 2020.

Furthermore, the authorities confirmed that the plane crashed around Laki Island and Lancang Island, Kepulauan Seribu at around 14:40 p.m. local time.

The number of passengers who took part in the flight consisted of 56 aircraft passengers and 6 crew members. Since the start of the search until the SAR operation was closed, 59 bodies have been identified by the National Police's Disaster Victim Identification (DVI) team.

Then, the FDR Sriwijaya Air SJ-182 black box was found on January 12, 2021, by the joint SAR team. At that time, the FDR was immediately taken to the NTSC to download the data. The data that was successfully downloaded includes 370 parameters, during the operation of approximately 27 hours. In it, includes 18 flights, including flights that have crashed.
