JAKARTA - The DPR RI's move to facilitate students who are victims of alleged bullying at Binus Simprug High School received appreciation. By accepting the victim's audience, Commission III of the DPR is considered committed to overseeing the creation of justice in this case.

"The DPR's steps in conducting direct hearings with victims and urging the police to carry out a thorough investigation are actions that should be appreciated. The DPR ensures its commitment to safeguarding justice," said Political Communication Observer Silvanus Alvin, Wednesday, September 18.

Commission III of the Indonesian House of Representatives received an audience RE (16), a victim of alleged bullying at the Binus Simprug High School on Tuesday (17/9). During the hearing, RE admitted that he received bullying and physical violence from the start of school in November 2023 and caused him to be traumatized to the hospital.

To Commission III of the DPR, the victim also stated that she had experienced sexual violence. RE even admitted that he received intimidation from the perpetrators of bullying, including threats from the alleged perpetrators who claimed to be the children of the general chairman of political parties (political parties).

The Binus School Simprug Foundation, which was also present at the hearing with Commission III of the DPR, denied that a number of students had beaten RE. The school said that from the results of the investigation of the incident carried out by it, the incident was said to be an agreement between students involved.

For this difference in information, Member of Commission III DPR RI Commission III Gilang Dhielafararez who attended the hearing encouraged the police to look for the real facts in the case of alleged violent bullying. Alvin said Gilang's request for neutral police in investigating the case was proof that the DPR wanted to ensure justice was revealed.

"The DPR's insistence on the police to carry out a transparent and comprehensive investigation is an important step in ensuring justice for victims of bullying. This concrete action shows the DPR's commitment to protecting children's rights and creating a safe school environment," he said.

Alvin also agreed with Commission III of the DPR who asked the school to be responsible for this case because it was deemed unable to provide optimal supervision of his students.

The steps taken by the DPR must also be responded positively to by parents, because children spend quite a long time at school, it can be 6-7 hours a day. So, school must be a safe space for the children themselves," said Alvin.

The Master Media and Public Relations from the University of Leicester, England also assessed that the DPR's move to hold an audience was correct considering that this case was increasingly attracting public attention due to differences in information from victims and the school. So, said Alvin, the role of the DPR in this case could be as a 'guard' to ensure justice is obtained by the right party.

"Because from the news circulating there are bullying individuals who claim to be children of high-ranking state institutions. This needs to be clarified so as not to cause unrest in the public, as if the child of an official can be arbitrary," said the Lecturer of Communication.

The police have denied the victim's statement regarding the perpetrator who is the son of the head of the political party. During the DPR Commission III hearing, the police also stated that the alleged bullying case at Binus Simprug High School had gone up to the investigation stage and ensured that from the results of the post-mortem, the victim suffered bruises covering an area of 3 centimeters on the left cheek and felt lumps and pain in the head.

Alvin said that the efforts of Commission III of the DPR to oversee this case were to ensure that legal handling could run transparently. Commission III of the DPR, which is based on law enforcement, is considered to have played its role, especially in the supervisory function.

"With the DPR helping to oversee this case, it is hoped that law enforcers can work optimally. And if it is proven that there has been an act of violence, of course there will be a deterrent effect for the perpetrators and prevent a similar action from happening in the future," said Alvin.

"The attention given also definitely has an impact on the management side so that they are more prepared to prevent bullying," he continued.

On the other hand, Alvin appreciated the steps taken by Commission III of the DPR which continued to hold hearings with victims of alleged bullying in the remnants of their working period. As is known, the DPR's working period for the 2019-2024 period is only a matter of counting days because members of the DPR for the next period will be sworn in in early October.

"The important note is that these steps were taken by the DPR at the end of their term of office. This shows that the DPR's commitment to child protection is not just rhetoric, but is a real action that is carried out consistently," explained Alvin.

Alvin added that the DPR continues to work hard in ensuring that legal cases are handled thoroughly and victims get proper justice.

"This means that they are trying to leave a sweet note too. In the future, cases like this, they must still be considered with similar levels of attention. Don't because there are viral cases, then respond," said Alvin.
