JAKARTA - The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) guarantees that the handling of hundreds of victims affected by the earthquake in Bandung and Garut Regencies, West Java, is handled properly and quickly.

Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhari said emergency assistance had begun to be distributed by West Java BPBD rapid reaction personnel to disaster sites with a proportional number.

The emergency assistance included refugee tents, tarpaulins, senso (machine saws), generators, portable lights, instant noodle packages, food packages and mineral water, to affected locations in Bandung and Garut Regencies.

According to him, Bandung and Garut regencies are the areas most affected by the earthquake that occurred Monday morning.

The West Java BPBD Operations Control Center recorded that up to 15.00 WIB the number of victims affected in Bandung Regency was 491 families and 209 families in Garut.

Even as of this afternoon, as many as 450 victims in Bandung Regency fled to occupy an emergency tent concentrated in the courtyard of the Paperari Sub-district Office.

The victims came from Kertasari, Pangalengan, Ibun, Pacet, Arjasari, and Pameungpeuk sub-districts, in Bandung Regency. Meanwhile, Garut Regency comes from Pasirwangi, Tarogong Kaler, and Sukaresmi sub-districts.

A number of these areas were directly affected by the earthquake shocks of a scale of 5.0 magnitude at 09.41 WIB this morning. A total of 491 houses and public facilities in Bandung Regency were lightly to heavily damaged, and in Garut Regency as many as 209 houses and facilities were damaged.

Abdul explained that currently the joint team of officers is also handling medical needs for hundreds of injured victims.

His party recorded a total of 81 injured victims as of 15:20 WIB in Bandung Regency and Garut Regency. One person. The seriously injured victims have been evacuated by a joint team of officers to receive treatment at the puskesmas and local public hospitals.
