Flood Impact Expands, 60 Thousand Houses In Czech Republic Lose Electricity Supply

JAKARTA - Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds made rivers in the Czech Republic overflow. Floods also entered a critical level, disrupting local residents' activities.

Launching ANTARA, Radio Prague International reported that the Jesenicko area in Olomouc and Frydlantsko in Liberec was among the most affected.

Emergency services have been deployed across the country, with more than 100,000 personnel trying to deal with an increasingly severe crisis, while heavy rains are expected to continue to fall throughout the day, potentially worsening the situation.

Earlier on Saturday, the Czech Institute of Hydrometeorology issued flood warnings in at least 170 locations across the country, with more anticipated as the flood situation worsened.

A severe flood warning, a level three emergency status, has been imposed in about 40 locations along various rivers.

The most vulnerable areas are Jesenicko and Frydlantsko, where rivers have overflowed, flooding houses and streets.

Despite the worst-affected areas, the increase in water levels also threatens other regions across the Czech Republic.

More than 60,000 households lost power supply, particularly in northern Bohemia, where extreme weather caused the most severe damage.

Heavy rains continue and strong winds further worsen the crisis, especially in the northern region, making it difficult for recovery efforts.

Train services have been suspended on several lines due to fallen trees and dangerous weather conditions, while some roads are severely disrupted as some parts are completely flooded.
