Riau Provincial Government Investigate Mass Death Of Buffalo In Kampar

PEKANBARU - The Riau Province Animal Husbandry and Health Service (PKH) is tracing the phenomenon of dozens of buffalo suddenly dying en masse with their carcasses floating in the Kampar Kiri River, Mentulik Village, Kampar Kiri Hilir District, Kampar.

"We will thoroughly investigate the cause of the mass death of these buffalo. Until now, we have not received an official report regarding this case," said Head of Animal Health Division of the Riau PKH Service, Faralinda Sari, as reported by ANTARA, Saturday, September 14.

His party will immediately conduct an in-depth investigation into this incident and will send a team to conduct field checks and further analysis.

The investigation is important to determine whether the buffalo's death is caused by infectious disease, poisoning, or other environmental factors. This step is expected to provide clarity and mitigation measures to prevent similar events in the future.

"This examination is expected to provide answers to events that have shocked and disturbed many parties," he said.

Therefore, the Riau PKH Service appealed to the public to report if they found an unnatural death of livestock and maintain the health of their livestock properly.

This incident became the public spotlight after a viral video on social media showed the shocking view on Thursday (12/9). Eight buffalo carcasses float in the Kampar Kiri River.

Several carcasses were also seen on the riverbank. There is no official information regarding the exact cause of the sudden death.

It is estimated that the number of dead buffalo could reach tens of tails. Many of these buffalo are kept released in the surrounding area, which adds to concerns about the possible spread of disease.
