MPR Chair Affirms Bung Karno Is Not Betrayed By The Nation After MPR's Tap 33/1967 Was Revoked

JAKARTA - The MPR submitted a letter of revocation of the MPRS TAP Number XXXIII/MPRS/1967 to the extended family of the first President of the Republic of Indonesia Soekarno or Bung Karno.

The handover was made to the proclaimer's family at the Nusantara V building, the parliament complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Monday, September 9.

TAP MPRS No. XXXIII/MPRS/1967 has been declared a MPRS Decree group that does not need further legal action, either because it is einmalig (finals), has been revoked, or has been completed," said MPR Chairman Bambang Soesatyo or Bamsoet.

This letter was handed over to Bung Karno's eldest son, Guntur Soekarnoputra. Present at the event were the fifth President Megawati Soekarnoputri, Sukmawati Soekarnoputri to Guruh Soekarnoputra.

Bamsoet then explained that the submission of this letter was based on an MPR leadership meeting that followed up on the Letter of the Minister of Law and Human Rights regarding the TAP MPRS Number XXXIII / MPRS /1967. However, he realized that there were a number of psychological and political issues.

Because, there are accusations that President Soekarno gave policies that support the rebellion and betrayal of the G30SPKI in 1965 as stated in the consideration/weight section in letters (c).

"With the issuance of the President's Decree on the National Hero's Title for Bung Karno, the accusations contained in the TAP MPRS Number XXXIII/MPRS/1967 have been dropped and have not been proven," he said.

Bamsoet assessed that Bung Karno's national hero title in the era of President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono should prove that he never betrayed him. In the future, this kind of event should not happen again.

"There should be no citizen of our country, especially if he is a leader of the nation who must undergo any penalty without a fair and fair legal process," said Bamsoet.

Furthermore, the MPR RI is committed to overseeing the restoration of Soekarno's good name for the fair legal uncertainty caused by the interpretation of MPRS Decree Number XXXIII/MPRS/1967. Likewise with the granting of rights as citizens and the President of the First Republic of Indonesia.

"Including President Soekarno's rights such as housing and others as obtained by the next President of the Republic of Indonesia," he concluded.
