Responding To The Case In Pelembang, KPAI Affirms Don't Spread Child Identity In Legal Cases

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Child Protection Commission (KPAI) asks the public and the media to be wiser by not disseminating the identity of children, both victims, witnesses, and children in legal conflict.

"KPAI hopes that the public and the media can be wiser by not disseminating children's identities in legal cases," said KPAI member Dian Sasmita when contacted in Jakarta, Friday, September 6, as quoted by Antara.

He said this was in response to cases of sexual violence against children in Palembang, South Sumatra (Sumsel).

Dian Sasmita said that children's behavior in violating the law needs to be seen from many aspects, especially those that have a major impact on children's lives.

"Such as family environment, social, and education. Are children exposed to violence, or other wrong behavior. This needs to be explored," he said.

KPAI also emphasized that in handling child actors, an active role is needed from the Correctional Guidelines of the Correctional Center (PK Bapas) to prepare social and social research/social workers for social reports, so that law enforcement officers get a more complete picture of the child's situation.

Previously, cases of sexual violence and murder of a junior high school student with the initials AA (13) were revealed at the Chinese cemetery, Palembang.

Palembang Police then named four people as suspects in this case. The four of them are still children with the initials IS, MZ, NS, and AS.
