Pope Francis' Arrival Is Considered An Important Symbol Of Interreligious Good Relations

JAKARTA - The presence of Pope Francis to Indonesia, which is one of the largest Muslim countries in the world, 3-6 September 2024, is an important symbol of the establishment of good relations between the Islamic and Catholic communities and among other religious believers.

This was the statement of Paramadina University's stance regarding Pope Francis' Apostolic visit to Indonesia which was conveyed by the Chancellor of Prof. Dr. Didik J Rachbini in Jakarta, Thursday, September 5.

"We welcome and appreciate Pope Francis' visit with joy. This visit will deepen and improve relations to an unprecedented position for Muslims and Catholics in Indonesia and in the world," said Didik.

According to Pope Francis, he is known as a figure who always voices and dialogues the spirit of humanity and brotherhood between mankind consistently, including with the Islamic world.

"We really appreciate and support so that this role continues to create a better human life," he said.

Amid the joy of welcoming the arrival of the Pope, Paramadina University also encourages all parties to participate in voicing the issue of the humanitarian crisis and colonialism that is taking place in Palestine.

"So far, Pope Francis has voiced a halt to the war and independence of Palestine," he said.

The Pope's stance is very important and needs to continue with other religious communities so that these aspirations can be voiced more constructively and with a more measurable impact to end the humanitarian crisis and colonialism of the Palestinian people.

"In the midst of the leadership crisis that is hitting Indonesia, the simplicity and affection shown by Pope Francis is an ocean in the midst of anxiety," he said.

Didik added that political leaders in Indonesia need to make Pope Francis an example because of the simplicity and concern he shows.
