Responding To BMKG Forecast About Megathrust, Bogor Issues Circular Of Earthquake Preparedness

BOGOR - Bogor City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) issued a circular warning for earthquake disaster preparedness.

Regional Secretary ex officio Head of Bogor City BPBD Syarifah Sofiah said this step was based on data from BMKG monitoring, which showed an increasing trend of earthquake activity in Indonesia.

And, said Syarifah, there is a similarity between Megathrust Nenkai, Japan and two Megathrusts in Indonesia.

"Following this, we ask for the help of the sub-district heads and village heads throughout Bogor City to prepare concrete steps to increase public preparedness in dealing with earthquake disasters," he said in Bogor City, Sunday, September 1, as reported by Antara.

For pre-disaster preparedness, BPBD invites the public to prepare a plan to save themselves if an earthquake occurs. Among other things, doing useful exercises when facing debris due to the earthquake.

"As well as preparing fire extinguishers, standard safety equipment, and medicine supplies and building house construction resistant to earthquakes with a strong foundation," he said.

Then, he said, the public was advised to seek information on earthquake risk by following official social media related agencies such as BMKG, BPBD and Bogor City Government. As well as preparing an evacuation plan to establish evacuation routes and temporary evacuation sites, planning for earthquake-resistant housing strengthening, preparing disaster prepared bags.

"Avoid using elevators and escalators, use emergency stairs, don't stand near poles, trees, power sources or buildings that may collapse. Including recognizing parts of the building that have a strong structure such as the corner of the building," he said.

Finally, said Syarifah, as a post-disaster step, the public must remain alert to aftershocks, check the presence of fires and the potential for fire disasters. Standing in an open place away from buildings and avoiding areas prone to landslides.

After the earthquake occurred, Syarifah said, it must be ensured which buildings are safe to access or inhabit. If you want to set up a family tent around the house, avoid the potential for a building to be hit.

"Make sure the information from the official sources from BNPB, BMKG or BPBD and don't be provoked by hoax issues or forward it to other people," he said.
