JAKARTA - Head of the Education Division of the Central Indonesian Journalists Association (PWI), Dr. Suprapto, was elected as Chairman of the Responsibility Committee for the Digital Platform Company for the period 2024-2027. Suprapto's involvement was appreciated by the General Chairperson of the Central PWI, Hendry Ch Bangun.

Hendry Ch Bangun stated that Suprapto's presence with 10 other members would strengthen efforts to maintain and improve quality journalism in Indonesia. "I believe they are committed to carrying out their duties properly and representing all constituents, including PWI," said Hendry after the inauguration ceremony at the Press Council Hall, Friday, August 30.

Hendry also added that this committee is a positive step towards ensuring journalism remains independent and credible.

Chairman of the Press Council, Ninik Rahayu, emphasized that the process of selecting members of the Digital Platform Company's Responsibility Committee took place transparently without intervention from the Press Council or other parties. "I do not communicate directly or by telephone with prospective members," said Ninik.

Dr. Suprapto expressed his gratitude for the trust given. "I hope this committee can create quality journalism and build a healthy press ecosystem," said Suprapto, who on the committee represented PWI elements chaired by Hendry Ch Bangun.

This committee was formed based on Presidential Regulation No. 32 of 2024 concerning the Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies in Realizing Quality Journalism in Indonesia. This regulation was signed by President Joko Widodo on February 20, 2024.

The Committee for Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies consists of three elements: the Press Council, experts, and the government. From the elements of the Press Council, the members inaugurated include Alexander Carolus Suban, Fransiskus Surdiarsis, Herik Kurniawan, Sasmito, and Dr. Suprapto. They are expected to be able to uphold quality journalism standards.

From the expert element, this committee involved Ambang Priyonggo, MA, Damar Juniarto, Dr. Guntur Syahputra Saragih, Indriaswati Dyah Saptaningrum, and Kristiono Setyadi, who are expected to provide in-dept. insight into the issue of journalism and digital platforms.

The government element is represented by Mediodecki Lustarini, Secretary of the Directorate General of Information and Public Communication. The presence of Mediodecki is expected to ensure the synergy between government policies and responsible journalism practices.

With a diverse composition, the Committee for Responsibility of Digital Platform Companies is expected to be able to maintain and improve quality journalism in Indonesia.
