KPK Regarding Situbondo Regent Returns To Nyalon After Reportedly Becoming A Suspect: We Are Not Included In The Political Field

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) said it did not interfere in political affairs. They only focus on the law enforcement process.

This was conveyed by KPK spokesman Tessa Mahardika when confirmed about the Regent of Situbondo Karna Suswandi who re-registered in the Situbondo Pilbup.

Padahal Karna Suswandi dikabarkan sebagai salah satu tersangka dugaan korupsi pengelolaan dana pemulihan ekonomi nasional (PEN) serta pengadaan barang dan jasa di Pemerintah Kabupaten Situbondo tahun 20212024.

"What is clear is that we are not involved in the political realm," Tessa told reporters at the KPK's Red and White building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Friday, August 30.

Tessa also mentioned that re-registered her because it was not an institutional problem. The General Elections Commission (KPU) is believed to have rules that contain whether or not a person can run for himself when he has been named a suspect.

"We at the KPK only saw that if someone had become a suspect, we didn't see him registering all kinds of things. It's up to the person concerned," he said.

"As long as it has not been detained, of course there are no things that investigators can do in this case if it is related to personal matters," continued Tessa.

Previously reported, the KPK conducted investigations into alleged corruption related to the management of national economic recovery funds (PEN) as well as the procurement of goods and services (PBJ) in the Situbondo Regency Government in 2021-2024. Two people were named as suspects.

This investigation is said to have been carried out since August 6. The two parties named as suspects are KS and EP as state administrators in the Situbondo Regency Government.

However, the KPK has not been able to detail the two suspects. They were only revealed when the forced detention attempt was carried out after the evidence was declared sufficient.

In this case, KPK investigators have also searched the official residences and the regent's office.

As a result, documents and electronic evidence were found from the location which were later confiscated and will be clarified to the relevant parties.
