JAKARTA - Central Jakarta Metro Police Chief, Grand Commissioner Hengky Haryadi together with Central Jakarta Military District Command 0501 Commander, Colonel Infantry Luqman Arief checked the security of the jurisdiction church.

"The Central Jakarta Metro Police conducts large-scale patrols involving elements of the National Army and Regional Government (Pemda), Pam Swakarsa (Armed Civilian Group), and other components of the nation," said Hengky in Jakarta as quoted by Antara, Sunday, March 28.

Security of places of worship, which is a routine activity of the Central Jakarta Metro Police, will be further enhanced in response to the suicide bombings in Makassar, South Sulawesi (Sulsel).

He added that supervision needs to be improved considering the pattern of suicide bombings that have previously occurred in Surabaya and Medan. Supervision is carried out in order through preemptive and preventive activities.

Among other things, increased security and patrols in churches and other places of worship in the jurisdiction of the Central Jakarta Metro Police.

Efforts are being made, namely placing patrol cars and members around the church as part of preventive measures. Then a screening mechanism is built for people who will enter places of worship.

Furthermore, empowering the internal security of the church or place of worship through activities that provide motivation and direction to increase awareness.

The authorities also check the function of surveillance cameras (CCTV) in churches where they are worshiping and their surroundings and ensure that they are functioning. In addition, carrying out the symbol and face to face with the board and congregation of the church/place of worship to provide a sense of security.

"We are aware of the continued suicide bombing targeting other targets. Therefore, keep tightening the security of other vital objects and implement a buddy system for members on duty in the field while guarding churches/places of worship," said Haryadi.
