Malaysia Will Audit Utilities On Ambles Street That Burys Woman From India Alive

JAKARTA - The Malaysian government will conduct an audit of the entire utility system on Jalan Masjid India Kuala Lumpur, which is the location of the subsidence of the land, causing a woman to be buried alive. "We will examine all the utilities and entire underground systems here [Indian Mosque road] by post-mortem to determine how to prevent similar incidents in the future...," said Deputy Prime Minister of Malaysia Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof after reviewing the location of the subsidence of the road on Jalan Masjid India, Wednesday, August 28, quoted from The Sun Daily. He said inspections were being carried out to ensure public safety. The action was also to identify the cause of land subsidence in the affected areas. "Sometimes new developments are carried out, so we want to find the cause of land subsidence," continued Fadillah. According to him, an integrity audit will involve a number of institutions, including the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), Konsortium Air Indah, the Public Works Department (JKR), the Fire and Rescue Department, and the Department of Mineral and Geosciences (JMG). "We will investigate the cause and fix this (utility) system," he said.

Fadillah said Indian Mosque Street would be temporarily closed for vehicles until the search and rescue operation for buried victims was completed. Regarding offers from abroad to provide experts for SAR operations that have entered the sixth day, Fadillah said they are not yet needed. He emphasized that Malaysia's national SAR team already has the latest experts, equipment, and technology. On the same occasion, he reminded the public not to speculate about the incident, including the emergence of a second subsidence of about 50 meters from the initial location. "I hope all parties don't speculate, because many ‘ Google &rsquo experts are popping up. That won't help, let the related parties carry out the investigation. So far, the area (Indian Mosque Road) is safe,” he said.
