INA-LAC 2024 Held In Peru, Pushes For Acceleration Of IP-CEPA Discussion?

JAKARTA - The selection of Lima, Peru as the location for the 2024 Indonesia Latin America and the Caribbean (INA-LAC) Business Forum, cannot be separated from efforts to accelerate the discussion of the Indonesia-Peru Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IP-CEPA).

"Yes, it is also true," said the Director General of America, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Ambassador Umar Hadi, when asked whether Peru's election was also to encourage the acceleration of the IP-CEPA discussion, after giving a press statement in Jakarta, Tuesday, August 27.

"I will also have a bilateral consultation forum before Inalec is there. There we will definitely encourage the CEPA to be faster," he continued.

"We are negotiating a lot, with the European Union, Canada, Turkey," he added.

Indonesia and Peru started the first IP-CEPA negotiations in Lima on 27-30 May. Quoted from Antara, the Indonesian negotiating team was led by the Director of Bilateral Negotiations of the Indonesian Ministry of Trade Johni Martha.

It is said, in addition to the potential for trade between the two countries is quite large, Peru can also be a liaison with Indonesian products in Central America and South America.

Previously reported, Indonesia will hold the INA-LAC 2024 on 11-13 September in Lima. This is different from before, where the business forum, which has been held since 2019, has always been held in Indonesia.

"We hold it in Lima, Peru. Usually Latin entrepreneurs come to Jakarta. This time, we come there, to Peru. This year Peru will also host the APEC Summit in November," explained Ambassador Umar Hadi.
