Flash Flood Hits Ternate City, 13 People Died

High-intensity rain that flushed the area of Ternate City, North Maluku Province, on Sunday, August 25 at 03.30 WIT, triggered flash floods in Rua Village, Ternate Island District.

This disaster resulted in 13 deaths, two people were injured, and the number of affected victims is still in the process of collecting data.

Based on a report received by the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), this flood also caused material damage with 10 housing units severely damaged (RB). Until now, efforts to deal with disaster sites have been carried out.

"The Ternate City BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) together with relevant agencies have been deployed to evacuate victims and quickly study the impact of disasters. The North Maluku Province BPBD has also coordinated with the Ternate City BPBD to accelerate handling in the field," said Head of the BNPB Disaster Data, Information and Communication Center Abdul Muhar, Sunday, August 25.

Urgent needs at affected locations include refugee tents, light towers, blankets, mattresses, tarpaulins, folding mattresses, and basic necessities. The team in the field is also conducting further data collection to ensure the number of victims affected and damage to occur. The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) estimates that the potential for high-intensity rain is still possible in Ternate City and its surroundings in the next few days. The public is advised to remain vigilant and follow directions from the authorities regarding the potential for further flooding.
