Russian Troops Prevent Ukrainian Reconnaissance Team From Breaking Through Bryansk Border

JAKARTA - Russian troops prevented teams from sabotage and surveillance of Ukraine breaking into the border in the western Bryansk region, about 240 km (150 miles) from the location of the Ukrainian attack on neighboring Kursk.

Russia said its troops had moved forward in eastern Ukraine and began to push back Ukrainian troops in the Kursk region.

While a senior commander warned Ukrainian troops were gathering again for another possible attack.

Governor Bryansk Alexander Bogomaz said border guards of the Federal Security Service and Russian military units managed to ward off attacks by Ukrainian sabotage and reconnaissance teams on Wednesday, August 21.

He said the attack attempt took place in the Klimovo district bordering the Chernihiv region in Ukraine.

Bryansk's territory is located northwest of the Kursk region, where Ukraine has been attacking since early August.

Ukraine broke through Russia's borders in the Kursk region on August 6 in a bid to force Moscow to divert troops from the rest of the front lines, although Russian troops have continued to advance in eastern Ukraine in recent days.

Russia's Defense Ministry said it shot down 28 drones in Russian territory, including 13 in the Volgograd region, seven in Rostov, four in Belgorod, two in Voronezh, and one each in the Bryansk and Kursk regions.

A fire broke out at a military facility in Russia's southern Volgograd region after a Ukrainian drone hit him on Thursday, regional governor Andrei Bocharov said via the Telegram messaging app.

Bocharov said there were no casualties and did not specify what facilities were attacked, but said the attack was focused on the Marinovka village area, where the military air base is located.

Aviation watchdog Rosaviatsia said temporary restrictions were imposed on Thursday at Volgograd airport.
