Vice President Says Women And Children Have A Broken Role In Terrorism Chain

JAKARTA - Vice President (Vice President) Ma'ruf Amin emphasized that the active role of women and child protection needs to be improved in efforts to prevent and overcome extremism and terrorism.

This is one of the strategic steps to strengthen the implementation of the National Action Plan for the Prevention and Combating of Violent Extremism Based on Terrorism (RAN PE) for 2025-2029.

"The impact of terrorism they feel is not only physical, but also psychological and their role is very important in breaking the chain of terrorism within the family environment," said the Vice President in his remarks at the Awarding ceremony for the Prevention and Combating of Violent Esktremism Based on Terrorism in Indonesia (RAN PE Awards) 2024 in Jakarta, Monday, August 19, was confiscated by Antara.

The next step is to strengthen multi-party collaboration to strengthen efforts to strengthen RAN PE 2025-2029.

"Delete rigid bureaucratic barriers and jointly maintain national security stability from threats from parties who try to divide the harmony, unity and integrity of the nation," said the Vice President.

Furthermore, the Vice President requested that the focus of implementing RAN PE be directed at the implementation of programs/activities that have a direct and real impact on society.

"In collaboration with pesantren and civil society organizations that can go directly to the local level. Listen to proposals related to strengthening the RAN PE so that efforts to prevent and overcome extremism are in accordance with the situation and needs of the community," said the Vice President.

Then, he also asked the local government (Pemda) to be supported to play a more active role in carrying out the RAN PE action.

"Local governments have a deep understanding of social, cultural and dynamic conditions so that regional involvement is important to get a faster and more appropriate response to the threat of terrorism," said the Vice President.

Closing his remarks, the Vice President congratulated all recipients of the 2024 RAN PE award who have committed, contributed, and consistently carried out efforts to prevent and overcome violent extremism in Indonesia.

"I also appreciate the National Counterterrorism Agency and all institutions that have collaborated and collaborated in the implementation of the first period of RAN PE and hopefully the next period of RAN PE can continue to help improve safe conditions without threats to the Indonesian nation," he said.

Previously, the Head of the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Komjen Pol. Mohammed Rycko Amelza Dahniel reported that until the end of July 2024, 126 actions from 130 RAN PE actions had been carried out. The implementation resulted in the absence of open terrorism attacks from 2023 to August 2024.

Indonesia's Global Terrorism Index (GTI) is also getting better, from position 24 or medium impact in 2022 and 2023 to position 31 or low impact in 2024.

Even so, BNPT still views the crucial commitment to the sustainability of RAN PE considering that the ideology that teaches intolerance and violence will not disappear and will continue to transform in various forms and ways, with women and children as the targets.

"Therefore, we ask for the support of the Vice President and all stakeholders so that the draft Presidential Decree on the sustainability of the RAN PE in the next period can be determined immediately, where the continuation of the RAN PE will prioritize a human security approach in line with sustainable development goals," said Rycko.
