Mount Awu North Sulawesi Experienced 9 Times Shallow Volcanic Earthquake

JAKARTA - The Awu Volcano Post in Sangihe Islands Regency, North Sulawesi (Sulut), recorded nine shallow volcanic earthquakes with an amplitude of 3-10 millimeters, a duration of 6-15 seconds during the observation period at 12.00-18.00 WITA, Sunday 18 August. Quoted by Antara, Volcano Post Officer Awu Tommy Luhut Marbun reported that in addition to shallow volcanic earthquakes, two volcanic earthquakes were recorded, 4-30 millimeter amplitudes, 0.5 seconds S-P for 12-23 seconds.

The tectonic earthquake was also recorded six times with an amplitude of between 3-26 millimeters, the S-P 13-16 seconds lasted between 61-219 seconds. Visually, the mountain was clearly visible, foggy with the smoke from the weak pressure crater being observed to be white with a thin intensity and a height of 20-30 meters above the crater peak.

At the level of activity level three, people and visitors / tourists are expected not to approach and move within a radius of five kilometers from the crater of the summit of Mount Awu.
