JAKARTA - Malaysian police are hunting for four perpetrators of the kidnapping of a Chinese citizen (WN) and a woman in the area near Lebuharaya Maju Toll Plaza, Cyberjaya.

Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said in the investigation of the case the police had shot dead 4 perpetrators. While the perpetrators are still being hunted by three men and a woman.

"After close to resolving the case, we believe there were 18 people involved where four people were shot dead, 10 people have been arrested and detained as of August 14 and four are still at large," Hussein told a news conference on Monday, August 12, quoted by Bernama.

"All of these people have criminal records in the past. Photos and details will be distributed to the media in the near future," he continued.

Hussein said 18 perpetrators involved in the case had their respective roles, including planning, kidnapping, collecting ransom and caring for the two victims until they were released.

Among those involved was the driver of the victim who was one of the planners of this kidnapping case and the motive for the kidnapping was to get money, he said.

Hussein explained that these perpetrators had pocketed the ransom requested from the victim's family. He said the ransom had been divided equally into cryptocurrencies worth RM5.3 million or US$1.2 million.

Of the ransom, Hussein explained that the police had secured RM1.65 million and confiscated various items including vehicles worth RM3.1 million.

He said among the items confiscated were six luxury watches of various brands, a chain with goldTALs, two Toyota Alphard and a four-wheeled Mitsubishi Triton.
