JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) said the development of the capital city of the archipelago (IKN) is one of the foundations laid by the government towards a more advanced Indonesia.

"IKN will take Indonesia to progress. We should thank President Joko Widodo for laying the foundation for advanced Indonesia," said Director General of Information and Public Communication of Kominfo Usman Kansong as reported by ANTARA, Sunday, August 11.

According to him, the development of IKN is one of the steps chosen as an effort to equalize development and the economy in Indonesia.

Usman said, there are four destinations to move the capital city of Indonesia to the archipelago.

First, to create a new economic growth center. Second, creating a smart city, through the application of the smart forest city concept, which is sustainable and inclusive.

Third, form a more efficient work culture and bureaucracy. Finally, it became a symbol of Indonesia's pride because the State Palace and the Garuda Palace in the archipelago were fully built by the Indonesian people.

Director of Information and Communication of the Economy and Maritime Affairs of the Ministry of Communication and Information Septriana Tangkary added, as a smart forest city, IKN will be built into a smart, environmentally friendly city.

"IKN will provide various urban components that will ensure good quality of life for its people, such as clean water and air, regular urban planning, good accessibility, and safe and comfortable urban conditions," said Septriana.

It is known that this year's RI Anniversary celebration ceremony will be the first time it will be held at IKN.

The plan is for the RI 79th Anniversary ceremony to be held in the State Palace area which is facing the field in the IKN area in the Penajam Paser Utara Regency, East Kalimantan Province.

President Joko Widodo and invited guests consisting of community leaders, traditional leaders, and ambassadors from friendly countries are scheduled to attend the ceremony to raise the Red and White Flag to commemorate Indonesia's independence day at IKN.
