Sambangi Jokowi, Implementer Of The Sudanese Foreign Minister, Informs The Current Situation Of The State Conflict

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) received an honorary visit from Sudanese Foreign Minister (Menlu) Hussein Awad Ali Mohammed at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta.

Hussein's arrival was to inform the current situation of the conflict in Sudan.

"During the honorary visit, the acting (initiator) of the Sudanese Foreign Minister had submitted a letter from the President of Sudan, which included updating the current situation in Sudan," said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi at the Jakarta Presidential Palace complex, Friday, August 9, which was confiscated by Antara.

Retno, who accompanied President Jokowi at the meeting, said that Sudan was still unstable because there was still a conflict.

In addition, because Retno, the Sudanese people have not enjoyed stability in the country for a long time because of the continuous conflict.

"And I don't want to get into their internal conflict, considering this is their domestic problem," he said.

Retno explained that the conflict that was engulfing Sudan had a major impact on the safety and welfare of its people.

Based on data from The United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA) as of July 2024, said Retno, more than 25.6 million Sudanese people or equivalent to 53 percent need humanitarian assistance.

Retno said the number of people who fled outside Sudan had reached 4 million. In addition, Sudan is currently facing various health challenges, including handling Monkeypox, DHF, malaria and malnutrition.

During the meeting, said Retno, Hussein Awad Ali Mohammed who represented the President of Sudan also expressed his gratitude for the humanitarian assistance that had been conveyed by Indonesia to the people of Sudan.

According to Retno, until now Indonesia has sent humanitarian assistance totaling 22.4 tons of medical equipment for the people of Sudan.

"In terms of Indonesian citizens, we have evacuated almost all of our citizens in Sudan," he said.
