Highest DKI Layoff Rate In Indonesia, Manpower Office: Not All Work In Jakarta

Head of the DKI Jakarta Manpower, Transmigration and Energy Agency (Disnakertransgi) Hari Nugroho explained the high number of layoffs (PHK) in DKI Jakarta this year.

The Ministry of Manpower (Kemenaker) through the Industrial Relations SIGAP Portal recorded 7,469 layoffs in Jakarta from January to June 2024. Hari emphasized that the number of workers who were laid off in the first half was not entirely based in Jakarta.

"The data on a number of 7,469 people came from reporting workers who had been laid off who took advantage of the Job Loss Guarantee (JKP) program at BPJS Ketenagakerjaan," said Hari in his statement, Tuesday, August 6.

"From the data of 7,469 laid-off workers who took advantage of the JKP program, it turns out that not all workers who work or live/domiciled in DKI Jakarta Province," he continued.

It should be noted, according to Hari, that currently there are 1,491 companies in Jakarta whose head offices are domiciled in DKI Jakarta Province and have branches in various areas outside the region.

However, the company included its workers in the BPJS Employment program paid by the head office in DKI Jakarta Province. Thus, the case of layoffs on these companies was recorded as Jakarta workers.

Meanwhile, the Manpower and Transmigration Office also collected a list of layoff disputes in 2024 to June which were reported as many as 307 cases with 847 workers.

From this data, the most recorded cases came from North Jakarta with 71 cases with 249 workers, followed by 60 cases in the South Jakarta area with 98 people.

"Meanwhile, in terms of the number of workers registered in the dispute over layoffs, the East Jakarta area ranks in the number 2 most after North Jakarta with 172 workers, although the number of registered cases is only 30 cases," said Hari.

For information, the Ministry of Manpower recorded that the number of workers affected by layoffs in Indonesia for the January-June 2024 period was 32,064 people. Jakarta is the highest province with 7,469 workers.

After Jakarta, the province with the highest number of layoffs in Banten reached 6,135 workers, West Java as many as 5,155 workers, Central Java as many as 4,275 workers, and others.
