JAKARTA - UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (HAM) Volker Turk called for a de-escalation immediately in the Middle East.

The United Nations is concerned that Israeli military aggression in Gaza, Palestine, has spread into a Middle East conflict.

"I am very concerned about the increasing risk of a wider conflict in the Middle East," Turk said in a statement on Monday, August 5, quoted from AFP via Arab News.

The United Nations hopes Israel will ease tensions by stopping its attack which later destroyed hospitals and refugee camps that killed many of the civilian casualties.

According to Turk, all parties involved in the military aggression in Gaza relaxed tension by choosing to find a middle ground to create a ceasefire.

"We ask all parties, together with influential countries, to act immediately to defuse what has become a very precarious situation," Turk said.
