JAKARTA - Acting Governor of DKI Jakarta Heru Budi Hartono said that the DKI Provincial Government will install pipes on underground excavations with a total length of 7 thousand kilometers. Heru said that the installation of pipes, both the revitalization of old pipes and the addition of this new network, was carried out in order to increase clean water coverage in Jakarta. "7,000 kilometers throughout Jakarta, it reaches housing, networks, reaches Muara Village to Cilincing, to Kapuk, there are primary pipes, secondary pipes," said Heru at Pramuka Market, East Jakarta, Friday, August 2. Heru said that the installation of pipes was carried out in stages. The priority of connecting clean water pipes is aimed at areas with a clean water crisis or in areas where groundwater is no longer possible. "For example, gradually, the conditions that are very necessary are the flow from East Jakarta, the route to the west, east-southwest. This is from the east because one of the raw materials is east (such as) east-northwest, east-southwest," explained Heru. Heru previously also explained the reason the government needed to immediately carry out excavation work on pipeline networks. It is feared that Jakarta's land level will decrease due to the continued use of groundwater. According to Heru, the clean water crisis will also spread if people do not get access to piped clean water services. Considering that the coverage of PAM Jaya's clean water services is currently still 65.85 percent. In addition, the water loss rate in the piped clean water network (NRW) in DKI Jakarta is currently still high, at 45 percent. Thus, replacing a new pipe from an existing pipe that is old is also important so that there is no more water leakage flowing to people's homes, in addition to adding new networks. "We have to clean up. If not, then (the year) 2036 DKI will be prone to clean water," said Heru.

"Therefore, this decision is an unpopular decision because there are several points of traffic jams, including maybe some colleagues from the embassy who experience congestion," he continued.
