JAKARTA - The Presidential Staff Office (KSP) together with the Pijar Foundation held an Indonesia Future Network (IFN) with the theme Future Food and Nutrition.

The activity aims to discuss strategies and policy actions to strengthen food security and the quality of Indonesian nutrients, as well as promote cross-sectoral collaboration.

The activity involved the Ministry of Youth and Sports (Kemenpora) and the Ministry of National Development Planning/National Planning and Development Agency (KemenPPN/Bappenas), the Young Citizens Association.

"Food problems are global issues that must be handled seriously. We need land extensification, food yield intensification, and diversification from rice to other materials. Agriculture regeneration is also an important issue considering that many young people no longer want to work in the agricultural sector," said the Presidential Chief of Staff, Moeldoko in his statement, Thursday, August 1.

The activity also gathered 21 youths from the private sector, government, and non-governmental organizations as well as academics. They were involved in discussing action breakthroughs and policies in order to realize food security and national nutritional quality.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Sudaryono also gave his views. According to him, currently strategic steps are needed to deal with various problems, especially the threat of drought that affects the food sector.

"Traditional agricultural transformation to modern agriculture, as well as the provision of nutritious food and drinking milk for 82.9 million Indonesians in 2029 will be several priorities that will be encouraged. To make this happen, we need to anticipate several challenges, such as the dry season and El Nino," he said.

Meanwhile, the Director of Public Policy for the Pijar Foundation, Cazadira F. Tamzil emphasized the importance of a collaboration ecosystem between youth and the Government to encourage food security and nutritional quality.

"IfN Future Food and Nutrition produces concrete results, namely a collaboration action plan that is conveyed directly to the Government. After IFN, we are committed to continuing to encourage the implementation of the Collaborative Action Plan," he said.

Separately, the Expert Staff Office of the Presidential Staff and the organizers of the Indonesia Future Network, Muhammad Ichsan Karim hopes that IFN will become a forum for innovation in crucial sectors that will be a challenge for the future.

"Innovation and collaboration are current needs, so the challenges of uncertainty that can suddenly arise can be overcome," said Ichsan.
