Ayatollah Ali Khamenei Leads The Prayer Of Ismail Haniyeh's Body In Tehran

JAKARTA - Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei led the funeral prayers and prayers for the body of the late Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh who was killed in the attack on Tehran.

Apart from Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, it appears that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian joined the late Haniyeh.

Citing IRNA on August 1, the ceremony to say goodbye to Ismail Haniyeh began Thursday morning at the University of Tehran.

The mourners carrying Haniyeh's portrait gathered inside and around Tehran University, where Ayatollah Ali Khamenei prayed in front of Haniyeh's coffin and one of his bodyguards.

Earlier, Iran's Supreme Leadership Office had announced that funeral prayers would be held at the university before mourners marched to Azadi Square.

Ismail Haniyeh was killed in an attack on his residence in Tehran, Hamas confirmed on Wednesday morning.

He was in the Iranian capital to attend the inauguration of the elected president Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday afternoon. Prior to his inauguration, he met Khamenei and Pezeshkian on two different occasions on Tuesday.

"The criminal and terrorist Zionist regime has prepared a basis for severe punishment for itself with this action, and we consider it our duty to avenge his blood as he has died in the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran," said Ayatollah Ali Khamenei earlier.

The plan is that after today's funeral ceremony in Tehran, Haniyeh's body will be buried in Doha, Qatar tomorrow.
