Regrets DPR Members See Polri's Joint Clashes In Tual: Arrogance Of Disturbing Apparatus

JAKARTA - Commission III highlighted the clash between the police between Brimob and Polantas personnel that occurred in Tual a few days ago. The DPR assessed that the incident injured the duties and authorities of the police who should maintain security and public order.

"It was an act that was embarrassing and inappropriate. The police who have the task and function of maintaining security and public order actually caused a commotion. Moreover, this is an internal member of the police," said Member of Commission III Gilang Dhielafararez, Tuesday, July 30.

Previously, members of the Tual City Police and Brimob BKO Regiment Pas 4 Pioneer Polda Maluku were involved in clashes on Jalan Raya Tual City on Sunday (28/7) night not far from the Tual Police Headquarters. The clashes were marked by repeated firearm eruptions.

The video of the clash has gone viral on social media. In the two-minute video, the two groups are seen clashing until gunshots are heard. The important highlight is the clashes that occurred in front of the Maranata Church.

At that time, the Christians were holding a night service, where it appears in the video that residents are afraid and worried because of the tense atmosphere caused by the clashes between the police. Gilang assessed that the actions of the members of the police corps were inappropriate to imitate.

"It was fatal, considering that the clashes were carried out in front of the house of worship. Obviously it interfered with the comfort and security of the people to worship, we encouraged the police to immediately resolve the problem. Arrogance of officers like this is troubling the community," he said.

Gilang added that what happened in Tual was not a reflection of the real police. He encouraged all police personnel involved in the clashes to be sanctioned.

"The good face of the Police is at stake in this matter. There must be strict sanctions for those involved in accordance with the regulations in the Police," said Gilang.

The clash itself allegedly occurred triggered by a misunderstanding between members of the Tual Police Traffic Police and Brimob personnel during the raid on vehicles. A number of motorists who violated the rules were ticketed by Polantas, but there was a motorcyclist who was ticketed and fled because he did not accept it.

After that, suddenly there was an attack from several Brimob members on the Tual Police Traffic Police. Gilang thought this incident should not have happened, and asked the Police to further prioritize internal solidity.

"If there are solid units, this kind of thing shouldn't have happened, especially until the shootout and disturbing the community," said the legislator from the Central Java II electoral district.

Gilang also asked the leadership of the National Police to follow up on the case in order to maintain the integrity of the institution and public trust in the police. Commission III of the DPR as a partner of the National Police also encourages an internal evaluation to anticipate that incidents like in Tual do not happen again in the future.

"If there is no firm action and improvement from the ranks of the National Police, people can increasingly doubt the credibility of the police. We are pushing for the integrity of the Police," said Gilang.

"Remember, the task of the police is to protect and provide security for the community. Give a good example, don't let the Police harm the community because of the arrogance of the apparatus," concluded the Deputy Chairman of the DPR's Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Agency (BKSAP).
