JAKARTA - LG Electronics earlier this month launched a subscription service for the CLOi robot equipped with a refined AI (artificial intelligence) feature, as part of an effort to expand its presence in the business-to-business (B2B) market, the company said.

LG launched its Robot as a Service (RaaS) subscription service this month, featuring the CLOi ServeBot. This service robot can serve food in restaurants to help deliver in hospitals or hotels.

Through the CLOi robot subscription service, LG hopes that B2B clients can overcome the high cost of early purchases and the management and product inspection expenses they must consider when introducing service robots.

"Throughout the contract period, LG will provide professional management and services every six months through the Care Solution Manager service," the company said, quoted by The Korea Times on July 10.

"This includes checking the product status of automated detection systems, proximity detection sensors and motors; checking power switches, charging terminals, robot wheel operation and exterior damage regularly; and cleaning the exterior," he said.

The ServeBot CLOi uses independent suspensions on its six wheels to prevent fluid spills from stopping, turning on, or shaking suddenly, allowing it to move stably on the floor of the shop which is uneven while carrying food or liquid.

In addition, LiDAR sensors, or light detection and distance measurements, and 3D cameras from the robot scan space to avoid obstacles, and they can carry goods weighing up to 40 kilograms, the company added.

In addition to the CLOi ServeBot, LG has also started a subscription service for the CLOi TuiiBot cooking robot developed by the company-in-companies startup.

"CLOi TuiiBot is a robot for fried dishes that automatically drives balance and cooks," the company said.

"He not only maintains a consistent sense based on pre-installed recipes, but also prevents safety accidents during cooking procedures because they have an integrated hood and safety fence," he added.

LG says the subscription contract period for their robot is three years, with a monthly subscription fee of 660,000 won for the CLOi ServeBot and 1.4 million won for the CLOi TuiiBot.

LG plans to continue to expand its robot subscription service for B2B customers to take advantage of the growing robotic market.

According to the Korean Robotics Industry Association, the market value of the country's service robot is around 1 trillion won by 2022, up about 10 percent from the previous year.
