JAKARTA - The Indonesian Consumers Foundation (YLKI) and the Electric Train (KRL) Mania community reject the decision of PT. Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) to cancel daily train tickets at 10 stations as of March 25.

YLKI Daily Executive Chairman, Tulus Abadi, suspects that the elimination of daily tickets is PT. KCI's mode of seeking profit from selling multi-trip cards (KMT).

"It should be suspected that KCI deliberately gets income from selling cards, even though its core business is selling transportation services. It is unethical to collect income from the card business," said Tulus in his statement, Monday, March 22.

Tulus said the KMT card price was IDR 30 thousand. There is a price difference when compared to a guaranteed daily ticket (THB) of IDR 10,000.

"This is very expensive when compared to the price of cards in Singapore which is only a few cents," he said.

Tulus said that this policy was unfair from the perspective of consumer rights because it was considered burdensome. Because by requiring KMT, consumers with daily tickets have to spend a minimum of IDR 30,000 to buy KMT.

Meanwhile, he said, there are still many Electric Train (KRL) users who do not need KMT, because they only use Electric Train (KRL) occasionally. Therefore, Tulus asked KCI to continue to enforce short-term tickets/day tickets.

"The use of the daily ticket still has to be given access, especially for Electric Train (KRL) users who are not regular users. And it must be considered about the purchasing power of consumers, who can only afford daily tickets," he explained.

Previously, KAI Commuter VP Corporate Secretary, Anne Purba, said that currently, her party has set 10 electric train (KRL) stations that only apply for multi-trip cards.

Anne said that the system, which will take effect from March 25, 2021, will be in Jakarta Kota Station, Bekasi, Kranji, Bojonggede, Citayam, Depok, Depok Baru, Parung Panjang, Tanah Abang, and Angke Station. The reason is, the KAI Commuter Line wants to change the habits of Electric Train (KRL) users who often queue up for the daily ticket counters.

"With the increase in the volume of Electric Train (KRL) users and the high percentage of electronic money usage at these stations, which is 77.1 percent of all Electric Train (KRL) ticket payment transactions, KAI Commuter will make these 10 stations become special electronic money stations," said Anne.
