Kamala Harris Will Take Advantage Of Her Skills As A Prosecutor To Face Donald Trump

JAKARTA - United States Vice President Kamala Harris said she would use her skills as prosecutors to face Donald Trump in the US presidential election contest next November, during its inaugural campaign to garner support Monday.

"I face all kinds of criminals. Predators who harass women, fraudsters who deceive consumers, fraudsters who break the rules for their own benefit," he said.

"So, listen to me, when I say I know the type of Donald Trump. In this campaign, I will deal with it with my skills," said Harris, who was once a California Attorney General and a US senator before becoming vice president.

Harris, 59, outlined a series of policies he promised to implement, including signing legislation to protect abortion rights and ban assault rifles, saying he would make the rebuilding of the middle class his presidency focused.

Trump's campaign team responded to Harris' comments.

"Kamala Harris is as incompetent as Joe Biden and even more liberal," said Krypto Leavitt, Trump's campaign national press secretary.

"Kamala not only needs to defend his support for Joe Biden's failed agenda over the past four years, he also needs to answer his own bad record in terms of crimes in California," he continued.

President Joe Biden, who resigned from his candidacy on Sunday, called on the Harris campaign event. He said he thought he had made the right decision by resigning. He confirmed that he would remain president until his term ended on January 20, 2025.

After receiving President Biden's support, Harris began consolidating Democratic support for his candidacy for president, securing commitments from hundreds of convention delegates, announcing massive fundraising and gaining support from prominent party figures. They include former Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi, who has remained influential since resigning as chairman of the House of Representatives in 2022.

Harris' campaign team is targeting to secure a commitment from a majority of nearly 4,000 Democratic delegations to the Democratic Party convention next Wednesday evening, sources told Reuters, which effectively completed its candidacy.

Officials and campaign team allies have made hundreds of phone calls urging delegates to nominate Harris as president in the November 5 election.

The Harris campaign team said it had raised $81 million within 24 hours of President Biden's resignation, which is the largest number for a day in the 2024 campaign for both parties.

Nearly all prominent Democratic Party figures who are considered potential challengers Harris have expressed support for him, including Michigan's Gubernurten Whitmer, California's Gavin Newsom, and Kentucky Andy Beshear.

Harris will travel Tuesday to Milwaukee, the largest city in Wisconsin's state of battle, which last week hosted the Republican National Convention that shows Trump's dominance over his party.
