DPR Has Not Received A Presidential Letter Regarding Hasyim Asy'ari's Substitute As KPU Chair

JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed a presidential decree regarding the dishonorable dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari as chairman of the General Elections Commission (KPU). This follows up on the decision of the Election Organizers Honorary Council (DKPP) to fire Hasyim because of the alleged immoral case. However, the DPR leadership has not received a presidential letter regarding the replacement of Hasyim Asy'ari. "Until today, it hasn't been, maybe these weeks," said Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin to reporters in Jakarta, Sunday, July 21. It is known that President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed Presidential Decree (Keppres) Number 73P dated July 9, 2024 concerning Disrespectful Dismissal of Hasyim Asy'ari as Member of the General Election Commission (KPU) RI.

The President signed the presidential decree after the DKPP imposed a permanent dismissal sanction for Hasyim regarding the alleged immoral case. In addition, the DKPP granted the complainant's complaint in its entirety, and asked President Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within 7 days of the time the decision was read out. Finally, the DKPP asked the General Election Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) to oversee the implementation of the decision.
