JAKARTA - Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on Friday the attack on former United States President Donald Trump and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico was due to their "war view".

"All of these attacks were aimed at antiwar politicians and peace," PM Orban said in an interview with state-owned radio station Kossuth.

"Protester power is so ignited, tense, conspiring, and organized that they try to clear the strength of peace from the stage, from the center of political life."

PM Fico was hit by four bullets in an assassination attempt in mid-May. Meanwhile, Trump, a Republican presidential candidate for the upcoming November election, survived the shooting on July 13.

The two are allies of Orban, a far-right nationalist politician who has been in power since 2010.

Hungarian Prime Minister, who carried out Ukraine's "peace mission" earlier this month covering a meeting with Trump, said the former president survived the attack because "God has plans with him" to advance peace.

Meanwhile, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto said his party saw the potential for Trump's second term as an "open opportunity for peace" in Ukraine.

PM Orban said he spoke to Trump for two hours when the two met in Florida on July 11.

Friday's interview was the first time Orban had spoken about the meeting in detail.

He said they discussed several topics including the economy and that his team was helping Trump's aides with policies.

"We have excellent relations with those working behind the president in writing his economic agenda and foreign policy," said PM Orban.

"I can say that we are taking part in the process of determining this agenda, there are several topics such as family policies and termination of migration that we really appreciate," he said.
