JAKARTA - A number of students of the Sepuluh November Institute of Technology (ITS) Surabaya who are members of the Center for Advanced Materials and Nano Technology Research Team, created antibacterial paint and sticker coatings which are also declared effective in warding off COVID-19.

The Head of the Research Team, Dr. Agung Kurniawan ST, M.Eng, revealed that the permanent antibacterial and COVID-19 coatings on paints and stickers made using nano copper or copper materials.

"We have been conducting research since June 2020 in collaboration with the Institute of Tropical Disease of Airlangga University, Surabaya," he said, as quoted from Antara, Saturday, March 20.

Agung said, initially making cover stickers but after being tested it did not show optimal results.

"Research again, we made it with particle organs, mixed with coating organs was not optimal. Finally, we improved it using nanoparticles and it worked," he said.

According to him, the test results of paint and stickers using nanoparticles stated that 99.99 percent of the virus died in one hour.

The product he found was named CoFilm, which as a test laboratory, has been applied to door handles and the desks in ITS Medical Center.

"CoFilm paint and stickers can be used anywhere permanently. This means that they are not disposable. But there is a certain period of time. We use nano copper technology sticker coating to see firsthand the shelf life of the installed product," he explained.

He said the nano-copper or copper test technology for his innovative paints and stickers is still being developed.
