Gibran Withdraws From The Mayor Of Solo, PDIP Politician: Strange, Should Be From The Campaign Period

PDIP politician Deddy Yevri Sitorus considered it strange that Gibran Rakabuming Raka's decision to resign as Mayor of Solo. According to Deddy, Gibran resigned as regional head when President Joko Widodo's eldest son decided to run as a vice presidential candidate (cawapres) in the 2024 presidential election.

"I think it would be strange if he resigned now. Because he should have resigned, when he entered the campaign period, yes, I think the ethics should be there," said Deddy Yevri to reporters, Tuesday, July 16.

Deddy assessed that Gibran should have completed his duties as Mayor of Solo, who only had a few months left. Because he said, Gibran had already not resigned during the previous campaign period until now he was elected vice president.

"So, if you step back now, it's actually strange, right. Instead, he has to complete his tenure in the people's trust in Solo. Cook at the end of the retreat, right? If yesterday you didn't back down or leave during the campaign, you should have finished it now. After all, there's nothing urgent, so he has to step down, right," said Deddy.

"The people should have made a promise first, people only have a few months left. Yesterday when the campaign didn't even take time off. How come there is no campaign responsibility, it just resigned," he continued.

The chairman of the PDIP DPP for the Victory of the Executive Election then questioned Gibran's motive for suddenly resigning from the position of Mayor of Solo. Deddy also advised Gibran to complete his duties in the area before moving to the Palace.

"The people of Solo are proud that he resigned because he was appointed vice president, yes. I think this is a very strange decision and it should be questioned what the motive is, you know," he said.

It is known that the elected Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Rakaresmi resigned from the position of Mayor of Solo. Gibran revealed that one of the reasons for resigning was the preparation for the inauguration as Vice President on October 20, 2024.

Gibran has also submitted a direct resignation letter to the chairman of the Solo DPRD.

"Thank you, friends of the media, today we are delivering a letter of resignation to the Chairman of the Surakarta City DPRD, then to be processed according to the existing mechanism," said Gibran at the Solo DPRD building, Central Java, Tuesday, July 16.
